"Saw" series

I have spent the last three nights watching the first 3 Saw movies with a friend that has never seen them. I absolutely LOVE the storyline of these movies. While they’re extremely popular for their gore I enjoy the character plot more than any other aspect. After I’ve seen the movie once I will look away for most of the gore the following times I watch. I see no point in torturing myself through watching others scream and suffer again. I love the main characters that continue on each movie. I have read about and talked to several people about this series and find that many people like 2 the most. I find this strange because for me it’s one of my least favorites. After thinking in depth about this I think the reason I enjoy it least is because there are SO MANY characters in it that I don’t get attached to any particular story and ultimately don’t care what their fate is. The only part I really care for is the exchanges that go on between Jigsaw/John Kramer and Detective Matthews. Other than the character plot, the technical aspects are something I really love! I think the Saw series have my favorite edited movies. I love all the transitions and always find myself saying “WOW that was an amazing transition, HOW did they do that???!”…it’s something I pay attention to and just really enjoy. The music is also AMAZING- I love the Saw Theme song which was composed by a member of Nine Inch Nails. I love how when you hear it segueing in at the end you know everything  is about to come together (and then still leave you hanging). Can’t wait for number 4 TONIGHT :)

  1. I've never been a big fan of horror movies, though there are a few classics out there like Night of the Living Dead and the Evil Dead series that to me are must see movies. I haven't seen any of the Saw movies, but the way you describe them I can tell there is more craft to them than your average slasher flick. Glad to see that you are looking at these things critically.
